Promoting the Export of Goods and Services to Latin America

Legal PM Partners (LPMP), together with 28 other companies, participated in the first Trade Mission to Colombia organized by the Puerto Rico Department of Economic Development and Exports during the week of August 22 to 25, 2022. Alongside the Puerto Rican delegation, representatives from the Puerto Rico Retailers Association, the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, and the United States Department of Commerce for Puerto Rico, the United States, and the U.S. Virgin Islands also attended.

This mission had the purpose of creating and developing strategic alliances and collaborative agreements between both countries in order to promote economic development and strengthen local businesses’ strategies for exporting goods and services. Carmen Cortés, founder and principal member of LPMP, together with Ninotchka Rojas, administration and project manager, attended meetings in both Bogotá and Medellín with agencies such as the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, the National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI), and the Medellín Chamber of Commerce in Colombia. They also held meetings with the Association of Pharmaceutical Industries in Colombia (ASINFAR) and companies in food manufacturing and distribution. These meetings opened dialogue and opportunities to offer services in the areas of regulatory compliance, legal project management, and operations, thereby generating interest in establishing beneficial agreements and business relationships for all parties.

The Puerto Rico delegation was composed of companies that offer products and services in industries such as manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, technology, consulting, chemical products, personal care products, food, and others. Each company had the opportunity to meet with Colombian companies with the objective of identifying needs and establishing alliances and collaborative agreements.

“As part of our vision, participating in the Trade Mission to Colombia was an enriching experience because it gives us a context for expansion in the regulatory compliance industry, project management, and the legal industry. Likewise, it allowed us to connect with Puerto Rican companies with whom there is an opportunity to establish coalitions and/or agreements that foster the development of minority businesses in Puerto Rico. We will continue contributing to our country’s economic development and strengthening our strategies for exporting our services not only to Colombia, but throughout Latin America,”

“We are very grateful for this opportunity, which allowed us to move closer to one of our strategic goals: the export of our services. Bogotá has many companies in the life sciences industry with an interest in learning about and complying with FDA regulations. We expect to support several initiatives related to this topic. There was also interest in the courses we provide leading to legal project management certification, which we will offer in December.”
